Today’s Market Statistics
The issues that gained (Advancers) outnumbered those that declined (Decliners). There were roughly two Advancers for every Decliner, or a more exact ratio of 1.89-to-1.0. In real numbers, there were 1,307 Advancers to 691 Decliners while 171 stocks remained Unchanged.
Today, there were 503 new 52-Week Highs and 31 new 52-Week Lows. There were 449 new 52-Week Highs and 287 new 52-Week Lows on Friday.
The total volume of shares traded at the TSX today was 551,535,121, or 49% lower than the volume of 1,083,439,988 shares traded on Friday.
Note Readers (for Today Only): The volume of shares traded today will not be quite comparable to the volume of shares traded on Friday because Friday was a “Triple Witching Day“, a once-in-a-quarter event that characteristically comes with a very high volume of shares traded. If you must compare the volume of shares traded today with data that includes a realistic volume of shares traded on Friday, then depending on the problem you are trying to solve, it may be better to use the average volume for Monday to Thursday last week or the daily average volume in the last twenty days instead. The Triple Witching Day will most likely distort your analysis if you do not account for it.
