AMD-OpenAI Deal Shakes Up Tech Stocks; powers NASDAQ to new high

The Toronto Market
The TSX Composite Index gained 60.20 points, or 0.20%, closing the session at 30,531.88. The index has now gained in the last seven consecutive market sessions.

Today’s Market Statistics: The issues that gained (Advancers) outnumbered those that declined (Decliners). There were three Advancers for every two Decliners, or a more exact ratio of 1.60-to-1.0. In real numbers, there were 1,252 Advancers to 782 Decliners while 166 stocks remained Unchanged.
Today, there were 602 new 52-Week Highs and 20 new 52-Week Lows. There were 528 new 52-Week Highs and 21 new 52-Week Lows on Friday.
The total volume of shares traded at the TSX today was 472,972,228, or 1% higher than, or about the same as the volume of 467,372,009 shares traded on Friday.

The US Market
Today was a mixed market session with NASDAQ closing as the top performer while Dow Jones index ended the session in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined -63.31 points, or -0.14%, to close the session at 46,694.97. The S&P 500 index gained 24.49 points or 0.36%, ending the session at 6,740.28. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 161.16 points or 0.71%, to close at 22,941.67. The Russell 2000, rose 10.18 points, or 0.41%, closing at 2486.35.

Today’s Market Statistics: At the NYSE, the issues that gained (Advancers) outnumbered the issues that declined (Decliners). There was one Advancer for every Decliner, or a more exact ratio of 1.05-to-1.0. In actual numbers, there were 2,202 Advancers to 2,097 Decliners with 375 Unchanged.
Today, there were 665 new 52-Week Highs and 75 new 52-Week Lows. There were 686 new 52-Week Highs and 55 new 52-Week Lows on Friday.
The total volume of stocks traded today at the NYSE was 5,725,503,694, or about the same as the total volume of 5,755,109,997 shares traded on Friday.
On the NASDAQ, the Advancers outnumbered the Decliners. There were five Advancers for every four Decliners, or an exact ratio of 1.25-to-1.0. In actual numbers, there were 2,629 Advancers to 2,103 Decliners with 234 Unchanged.
Today, there were 519 new 52-Week Highs and 87 new 52-Week Lows. There were 442 new 52-Week Highs and 54 new 52-Week Lows on Friday.
The total volume of shares traded at the NASDAQ today was 10,797,643,821, or about the same as the total volume of 10,761,812,587 shares traded on Friday.
Market Roundup Report
The major headline in today’s market was the ground-breaking deal between Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) and OpenAI. According to reports, OpenAI plans to purchase tens of billions of dollars’ worth of chips from AMD, and may even consider acquiring a significant stake in the company. The news sent ripples across the tech sector.

One of the day’s notable winners was Datadog Inc. (DDOG). The stock gained 3.65%, or $5.54, closing at $157.36 with approximately 4.7 million shares traded.
Small-cap stocks also showed relative strength compared to recent sessions. The Russell 2000 index closed higher by 10.18 points, reflecting a modest but positive move.
Meanwhile, NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) saw its shares decline as investors digested the potential competitive implications of the AMD-OpenAI deal on its dominant position in the AI chip space. Another standout performer was Critical Minerals Corp. (CRML), which surged 45.24% on heavy volume, with 159.3 million shares changing hands.
